The village of Manso nestles in the shadow of the island's highest peaks, under the protection of Paglia Orba and Punta Minuta., in the upper Fango valley, a region well known to hikers and mountain walkers.
Steeped in history and agro-pastoral tradition, Manso proudly preserves the memory of the place. It was here that the Niolins spent the winter with their herds. You can walk in the footsteps of these Niolu shepherds who, to the rhythm of the transhumance, helped shape the landscapes of Manso's four hamlets: Monte Estremu, Barghjana, Mansu and Tuarelli.
Path from Barghiana (start of the track on the D351 road) passing through the Ponte di e rocceFrom Montestremo, it joins the path leading to the Bocca di Capronale (1,329 m).
It then crosses over to the Sevi side and reaches the Puscaghia refuge of the P.N.R.C. (in the commune of Évisa).
Finally, it enters the Niolo, crossing the "grande dorsale" at Bocca di Guagnarola (1,833 m) before descending to visit the villages of Albertacce, Lozzi and Corscia.
Above Monte Estremu, the former Santa Maria convent offers a magnificent panoramic view of the Fango springs and the whole valley.
If you fancy a swim in its crystal-clear waters, the River Fango has been awarded the "Wild River Site" label.
As for you, sporty friends, you can take to the ancient transhumance paths and the Tra Mare è Monte trail. The Parc Naturel Régional de Corse is also home to the lush Piriu forest and the entire Fangu valley, declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. It is also populated by holm oaks, said to be the oldest in the world.
The environment of rocks, stones, natural pools and waterfalls is magnificent. Diving and water slides are the order of the day on a summer visit. A real pleasure for hikers!
If you want to explore the Fango in a different way, you canou can go canyoning: with alternating jumps, swimming, walking and slides in the natural pools of the Fango, canyoning (accessible from the age of eight).
In this green landscape, where only the sound of birdsong interrupts the silence, you will glide silently over the mirror-like water to observe a multitude of animal and plant species, such as the white water lilies lining the banks, cistude tortoises sunning themselves on semi-submerged dead trunks and numerous birds and their chicks: grebes, moorhens and, depending on the season, wading birds: grey herons, egrets and, more discreetly, magnificent kingfishers flying stealthily over the surface.
In the north-west of Corsica, between Galéria and Porto, Scandola covers 900 hectares of land and 1,000 hectares of sea, including the peninsula of Girolata and its village.
The purple and gold porphyry rocks, shaped by the wind and waves, form curious sculptures.
The blues of the sea and the greens of the vegetation, combined with the intense reds of the rock, unfold a palette of colours that are truly breathtaking. exceptional and offer a wonderful landscape!
